Teaching my son, Sawyer, Mandarin myself while living in NYC has been challenging. Resources are limited and when they are available, they're typically written in Simplified Chinese & Pinyin (used in China) and not Traditional Chinese & BoPoMoFo (used in Taiwan, where I grew up). So I created these BoPoMoFo flashcards for him.
Drawing inspiration from his favorite things (bubbles, trains, and cats top the list) I illustrated each symbol with a corresponding image and word.
After creating a set for my kid, I thought it would be fun to sell them. So, to the horror of everyone else living in my small NYC apartment, I made 500 boxes. I've sold about half of them. They rest are still available for purchase here.
